ICE Officer assaulted in North Minneapolis

An ICE Officer pursued a wanted Venezuelan who fled into North Minneapolis and crashed. The Ice Agent was then assaulted by two men with weapons from a nearby apartment. The officer shot the original suspect in the leg in self defense.

According to the story on WGN 9, “As the officer was being ambushed and attacked by the two individuals, the original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broomstick,” DHS said in a statement.

The officer then fired “defensive shots to defend his life,” hitting the victim in the leg. All three attackers fled into the apartment and barricaded themselves inside, according to DHS.

Witnesses told the Minnesota Star Tribune that officers broke down the apartment door to apprehend them. All individuals involved were taken into custody, and both the officer and the man who was shot were hospitalized.”

MNPEA hopes for the speedy recovery of the ICE Officer.
