GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The Virginia Department of Corrections said they are mourning the line-of-duty death of a Corrections Officer following an attack by an inmate on Monday morning.
According to VADOC, the attack occurred around 7:52 a.m. at River North Correctional Center in Independence.
Three officers were injured in this incident and taken to the hospital afterwards, where officials said one of them, later identified as 40-year-old Jeremy Lewis Hall, was pronounced dead.
VADOC confirmed in an update that the other two officers have since been released from the hospital.
